The beautiful part of living and training dogs in Portland, Oregon can be the winter. Yes, you read that right.
Cooler temperatures, fewer people at parks, and evergreen backdrops make for a great training environment. And on days such as the ones we’ve had recently, with longer than normal dry snaps and great temperatures, training can also be done more often than is possible during warmer months.
- Dogs can be trained midday for longer than normal periods and without the concern of negative effects caused by hot temperatures or a lack of water
- Dogs needing practice riding in cars can do so more easily in winter (consider trips to Mary S. Young in West Linn, George Rogers Park / Foothills Park in Lake Oswego, and Forest Park in Portland)
- And without the distraction of everything else going on in the summer, winter is an ideal time to focus on your dog
Think of it as preparing your dog for the awesome summer you plan on having. Take advantage while you can. Winter won’t last.
